Holocaust Impact Theater
Holocaust Impact Theater (HIT) at Alper JCC Miami is an award-winning high school theater project created by educator Ruth Gordon and has been spotlighted on the news for its powerful impact. Students learn to write, produce, perform, and direct their own scripts while gaining lifelong theater and writing skills.
Using the Holocaust as a foundation, students explore the consequences of hate in society and connect historical events to today’s social injustices. Each production aims to deepen understanding, promote tolerance, and celebrate diversity, inspiring audiences to stand against hate and injustice.
HIT fills a vital gap by bringing together 70 to 80 diverse high school students each year to create a meaningful theatrical experience. This program gives young voices a powerful platform to express their fears, thoughts, concerns, and ideas for addressing urgent social issues. Through their performances, students spark important conversations that promote understanding and inspire action to combat injustice and hate.
