Experience Our Wonderful Adult Programming for All Ages

The Alper JCC offers a variety of programs and activities for adults to enjoy and learn while socializing with family and friends–-old and new.

Our Senior Adult Program offers stimulating and enjoyable activities for adults in their seventies and up three days a week.

There are also many programs that offer enrichment & support on an ongoing basis. These include wonderful Special Events that allow you to learn and expand your experiences.

Mindfulness Class - Mindfulness, Meditation & Your Heart Health
February 8, 2018, 11am - noon

$15 Fee

  • Discussion on mindfulness, and the practice of meditation
  • How mindfulness living and the practice of meditation benefits your heart health.
  • What is neuroplasticity and why is this important as we age?
  • The science of mindfulness and the American Heart Association 2017 statement on the benefits of meditation 
    as a lifestyle risk actor modification for cardiovascular health.
  • 15-20 minute meditation practice.

About the Instructor: Susan D'Agostino RN, MS, CMMI Registered Nurse, Certified Mindfulness Meditation Instructor McLean Meditation Institute Susan has been a registered nurse for over 30 years, board certified in cardiovascular nursing and has extensive experience in healthcare and healthcare coaching. She has had a long time interest in the mind-body connection, specifically as to how the mind affects the body's recovery from illness and also in the prevention of disease.

Ikebana: The calming art of flower arranging

Nature is always changing. Plants grow and put forth leaves, flowers bloom, and berries are borne regularly and repeatedly throughout the seasons. Nature has its own rhythm and order. The awareness of this is the first step in involving oneself in ikebana. Join us as we learn the 7 principles of Ikebana. Plant materials will be provided. Participants should bring shears, a 3" pin-holder, and a container in which to take your arrangement home. Space limited to 6. Patients/Survivors and loved ones are welcome! AARP Driver Safety Program 
Thursday,  January 18  •  10am-4:30pm

Come take this class for drivers 50 years or older. Refresh your driving skills, learn defensive driving techniques and proven safety strategies, as well as new traffic laws and rules of the road. Plus, there are no tests to pass. You simply sign up and learn!  Each student will receive a certificate which when presented to insurance, may be entitled to a discount. Grandparents Raising Grandkids

We know that life is filled with many challenges, but more and more grandparents have now been given the extra challenge of raising their grandchildren. Meditate On It – For Beginners

Today, more and more people are using meditation to diminish the stress we all confront every day. If you’ve never tried it, fear not! We’ll show you how to relax, quiet your mind and try to become calmer, more focused and clearer thinking. It’s so easy to do you’ll wonder why you never tried it before. We invite you to drop into our small group as we utilize various guided meditations and share experiences. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a towel, mat or meditation chair. Suggested donation $5.
